Like: The KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, announced this week as a partnership between the LPGA and the PGA of America, to replace the current LPGA Championship as of next year. This is creative cooperation by two of the game’s leading organizations—and the first venue, Westchester CC, is an inspired choice.
Don’t Like: The LPGA’s current five-major fiasco. Commissioner Mike Whan (far left, above, at the PGA Championship announcement), who has made so many wise and bold decisions in his brief term, now needs to make one more: Rescind the major status of the Evian Championship, so anointed only last year, and thereby return to the four logical majors the LPGA should have, the four events that are analogous to the majors on the men’s tour—a U.S. Open, a British Open, a PGA, and the ladies' version of the Masters, the Kraft Nabisco.
